As Aspen Goes - So Might Taos Go?
Aspen, CO is one of the top consummate ski communities in the world. For years we've been reading about the massive appreciation in real estate values, and the decreasing ability of those who work there to find affordable housing.
There's more news as regards their tourism industry. The DenverChannel.com reports that Aspen's tourism related emplyment is decreasing, while its real estate and home ownership related industries are on the upswing. There are more furnishing stores, landscapers, banks and home related businesses. Though tourism will always be a large ecomonic piece of Aspen's puzzle, perhaps more long-term residents will change the economy in many ways.
The question is, Taos being the tourism focused area that it is, should we be taking a look at this transformation. Perhaps some long-term planning could be focused on more permanent residents and the infrastructure to support them.
