Recent press has put forth the problem of shrinking tourism in Taos, as well as the suffering of the artists and galleries in recent years. It is easy to place blame on the events of September 11, 2001, and there has definitely been a profound effect....

Angel Fire is apparently going to build a new sports complex of softball and soccer fields. It is a worthy goal to provide areas for children and adults to recreate. It appears that the plan is moving forward, though there is some negative commentary...

New Mexico Airlines shows the map below on their site. We've had a haphazard airline service history in Taos, and it would be nice to get a new one with staying power. However, note that the date for service is shown as December 1, 2007, and we obviously...

What is the Attraction of Taos?
|
|
What brings people to the Taos area? What keeps them there, or what turns them away? Some say it's the mountain. If it likes you, you experience good fortune and will stay in the area. If it doesn't, you'll fall on hard times, both personally and financially, and you'll end up leaving. Some put a time limit of about two years on it.
I've lived here twice. The first time I left after a divorce and stayed away almost twelve years. But the draw was too great. I came back and have been here 7 years this time around. A year or so ago, we took a trip up through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Utah. The purpose was to see if there was a better place for us than Taos. We found beautiful country, and more water, which really was a lure for me. Lake fishing is my longtime passion. But what we didn't find is the culture and diversity of Taos. So, it's here we decided to stay. I don't think we were seriously considering it anyway, but it made for a nice vacation.
What do I love about Taos? It's only a little bit about Taos Real Estate:
- The awesome natural beauty
- The large amounts of public land for recreation
- The change of seasons
- The wonderful high desert climate
- The arts, theater and music
- Adobe homes
- The laid back lifestyle - PERSONAL
What do I NOT like about Taos?
- Some of the less-than-enthusiastic service in restaurants and retail
- The laid back lifestyle - BUSINESS
All considered, living in Taos is a privilege and not to be taken lightly. It's not an easy place to make a living. I've told many a prospective client that they'd better bring their job with them if they're looking for a high salary. This is a unique and beautiful place to live. I hope you find it to be your place also. Call or email me for your Taos real estate needs. |
